The Premium Denim Revolution

The inventor of jeans, Levi Strauss would have died of a heart attack had he been alive to see where the prices of jeans have landed since his time. Jeans for $200? Yes, and that is about a median price. The days of going out and buying a pair of jeans for $20 have expired, at least if you stay in tune with fashion. From True Religion, to William Rast to 7 For All Mankind, Paige and Citizens of Humanity, according to Forbes,

"Premium denim jeans (those that cost $60 or more) claim only a small share of the jeans market, but have experienced the fastest sales growth over the past several years. In 2005, the number of premium pairs sold doubled over the previous year, and in the first eight months of this year, they’ve risen 33%."

That is pretty crazy. But the fact of the matter remains, these jeans are definitely premium. Pick up a pair of sevens and there is a district difference from your $20 jeans at Walmart. But again, these jeans are not for everyone, just like a Ferrari isn't. But one cannot deny the uniqueness, the quality of the fabric, and the impeccable "wash". In the Forbes article of the "World's Most Expensive Jeans"

"Jeans, like anything else in a person’s wardrobe, have inevitably evolved to encompass any person’s desire, from the very basic to the completely elaborate. It’s just a matter of what someone wants."
