Lately, a lot of our favorite artists from back in the day are quietly resurfacing, buzzing around the web with a new project here and there. From Andre 3000 to the Game and Erykah Badu, fans openly welcome the murmurs from musicians we feared had past their prime. Neptunes member and producing legend Pharrell is one of those artists. Not that long ago, we dropped "Live Your Life," Yuna's swaying hit single. Today I'm happy to bring you another Skateboard-P track "Staircases," by Neptunes's newest signee Buddy, featuring Kendrick Lamar. Old talent and new talent come together on this crude but smooth track about getting high naturally, for once. Kendrick's verse is, of course, well-crafted and melodic, while freshman Buddy resonates like a young Lupe Fiasco. In all, the song reminds me of that old nursery rhyme: "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other's gold." Kendrick, Buddy and their respective crews represent a promising future for hip-hop, but with these latest projects Pharrell proves his gold crown isn't going anywhere.
