It is not hard to hear Rob Roy and realize that something different is going on. His style of "experimental hip-hop" (as some would call it) is really an example of evolution that every successful art form goes thru. Instead of copying and pasting like so many rappers, Roy truly puts his own touch, intentions, and visions of creativity into his flow. His music videos typically follow his path of freshly rehashing images and styles that are already familiar symbols in the hip-hop world. That's why it's great to see he has a new single and video out. "Little Egypt Wavy" is full of the peculiar but cleverly structured rhymes Roy is known for, as well as elements of the then and now--both visually and sonically. The somewhat distorted bass-line resurrects the early 2000's while the visual effects and synths keep us present. And then there are the sweet last two minutes of the song filled with harmonic 90s riffing--the kind that will have you singing "so wavy for you" in the shower for the next week and a half.
