Summer Inspiration Part I: Kalae All summer Day

This is the first installation in a piece dedicated to summer dreaming, or rather, d r e a m i n g of summer. As the weather finally gets warmer and the sun starts shining longer, we're going to be posting things that put you in the right mood to welcome Summer 2011.

First up, the new EP by Kalae AllDay. A hard working hustler, AllDay made big news when she earned her way to opening for De La Soul at last year's Brooklyn Bodega Hip-Hop Festival. With the giant afro to prove it, Kalae AllDay is like the lovechild of Andre 3000 and Erykah Badu (oh wait, they already have a kid), or sister of Janelle Monae. Shoot, she may even be Cee-Lo's cousin.

According to the artist, "The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars" EP is a "celestial call and response project" that will get you ready for the full moon tonight. With a Bossa-Nova influence but Fool's Gold style bass layers, it's also a perfect pre-gaming soundtrack for a thick summer night. Kalae and collaborating MC Sciryl Cooper released a teaser video earlier this month that combines wintery visuals with a hot beat and tar-melting rhymes. The juxtapositions of the "Space Travel" video embody our current seasonal threshold, but maybe 24/7 sun is only an intergalactic voyage away.
