The acronym for K.R.I.T. could no better describe him as an artist - KING REMEMBERED IN TIME.
While most people continue to sleep on Big K.R.I.T. even after last year's stellar mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, it's time for yall to wake up before he drops his follow up project Returnof4eva this Monday, 3/28. The 24-year-old emcee from Meridian, Mississippi made waves in the hip-hop pool last year when he dropped the critically-acclaimed, independently released mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. The 19 track album is at the same time compelling and enthralling. K.R.I.T. paints the perfect picture of a country boy trying to use his introspective and thought provoking lyricism to bring a breath of fresh air to a music genre dominated by club oriented beats and cocaine fairytales. "Country Shit" embraces his southern upbringing and he unapologetically portrays who he is and will continue to be. "Hometown Hero," one of the best cuts off the tape, follows K.R.I.T. as he reps for his home of Mississippi and the feeling of elation he gets for putting his city on the hip-hop map. "Glass House" has K.R.I.T. teaming up with stoner-duo and frequent collaborators Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y for some of that weed and braggadocio rap, perfect for a party jam. All in all the album bangs from front to back and it caught the eye of many major media outlets. XXL Magazine and MTV included it in their "Best Mixtapes of 2010" lists, and Complex and Spin Magazine put it in their "Best Albums of 2010." Its an understandable mistake, halfway through listening it begins to sound less like a mixtape and more like an album. Oh and I forget to mention, K.R.I.T. produced the entirety of the mixtape by himself, impressed yet? Well apparently someone was. Only a month after the release of K.R.I.T. Wuz Here the rapper/producer was signed to Def Jam.
Fresh off the heels of being named one of XXL's 2011 Freshmen Class, Big K.R.I.T. is getting ready to release his next free album: Returnof4eva. Named after the opening track of his last mixtape, K.R.I.T. aims to continue building on his career and skills, leading up to the release of his major label debut later this year. To build anticipation for the mixtape dropping this Monday, K.R.I.T. has released two tracks off Returnof4eva, "Dreamin'" and "American Rapstar," and I am not exaggerating when I say these are two of his best releases to date. I'll let the music speak for itself, because whether you recognize or not - in time, he will be remembered as one of the kings of hip-hop.
